Product Development and Marketing Working Group Executive Summary

July, 2005

This document is also available as a Word Document, an Open Document, or an Adobe PDF.

Executive Summary

Greater Coordination

This should be between different working groups, different sectors (academia, federal government, state government, local government, and private sector), different RA’s (GCOOS, MACOORA), and on different scales (IOOS, etc.)

Targeted Workshops

Involve the various stakeholders and allow the different ends of the spectrum to interact.

More Stable Funding

Lobby for additional support from academia, state, and federal government, but also expand to include local governments, insurance industry, maritime industries, and any related private sector. The use of case studies may greatly assist in justifying additional funding.

Brand Name

Provide a booth and/or speakers at professional conferences to educate the public and raise awareness of SECOORA.

Outreach and Education

Operations

There are currently, many strong educational programs within the region; however, they are not able to reach all target groups. Additional, funding for education would both assist in this effort and raise the general awareness of SECOORA. Need additional training programs at technical schools and worker education efforts. Coordination could provide education that is more consistent across all four states.

Relationships

SECOORA could provide booths/speakers at conferences to educate both the public and targeted audiences. This would also be a productive means of raising SECOORA’s visibility.

Resources

SECOORA should host a web-based archive for educational resources. SECOORA can provide regional training of education and outreach personnel.
