Served fourteen years as Executive Director of the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, leading it from a small children's museum into a new, $32 million state-ofthe- art science center and IMAX Theater that opened in 1992, serving 550,000 visitors annually, with over $6 million in annual revenues. Awarded Woman of the Year, 1990, by Women in Communication; Woman of Distinction, 1993, South Florida Magazine; and Fundraising Award, 1994, Florida Association of Non-Profit Organizations. Served as President of Florida Association of Museums for two years.
Appointed Executive Director/CEO of the Virginia Air & Space Center in 1995. In first fiscal year, increased earned revenue by 30% and attendance by 8%, and led organization to its first deficit-free fiscal year. In the next three years, while keeping the Center in the black, established contracts for services with three school systems, initiated and funded an exhibit design and construction program, and increased public support and philanthropy by over 40%. She served on the Boards of the Virginia Association of Museums, WHRO, Downtown Hampton Development Partnership, and the Cooperating Hampton Roads Organization for Minorities in Engineering.
In December 1999 accepted President/CEO position at the Orlando Science Center, a 200,000 square foot world-class science center with a 300 seat CineDome. In first year, obtained funding and partnerships to develop 10,000 sq. ft. of new exhibits, expanded contractual relationship with public school system, restructured and strengthened Board and auxiliary, created new earned revenue streams from catering and leases, and obtained operating funding commitments from the city and county. With first full fiscal year, led the Center to its first deficit-free fiscal year in four years, and increased participation in educational programs by 15%. Served on governing board of Museum Film Network.
In April 2002, returned to Fort Lauderdale to accept Presidency of the Museum of Discovery and Science and Blockbuster IMAX Theater. In first eight months, established fiscally responsible operating plan, installed three new permanent exhibitions, obtained grant funds to implement much needed facility repairs, developed and implemented new classroom and camp programs, published new quarterly magazine and educators’guide, and restructured Board. In FY 2003, she led the museum to its first operating surplus in 5 years, with a positive turn in operating results of nearly $1 Million. In FY 2004, initiated new $16 Million capital campaign for museum expansion and renewal. Serves on Boards of Directors of Association of Science Technology Centers,chairing its Analyses and Trends Committee, and of the Giant Screen Cinema Association,chairing its Publications Committee.
B.A. degree from University of Florida; also attended Duke University and George Washington University. Attended Museum Management Program, University of Colorado, and Museum Management Program, Smithsonian Institution.
