Dr. Lynn A. Leonard

Candidate for Academic Sector Institutional Member Board of Directors seat.

Dr. Lynn A. Leonard, Professor of Geology, University of North Carolina Wilmington. Lynn is the UNCW institutional SECOORA representative and is also the Director of the Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program (CORMP). CORMP is an end-to-end sub-regional ocean observing program that was initiated in 2000 and funded by NOAA/COTS (Coastal Ocean Technology Systems). The CORMP program provides real-time and delayed mode observational information to federal clearinghouses, State agencies and the NOAA National Weather Service’s (NWS) Carolinas Coast marine weather portal. One of CORMP’s strengths is outreach and partnership implementation and this is one area where Dr. Leonard can significantly contribute to SECOORA’s mission to engage regional stakeholders. CORMP closely partners and maintains strong working relationships with NOAA’s National Data Buoy Center, NOAA NWS Wilmington Forecast Office, NOAA National Undersea Research Program, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Since assuming directorship of the program, Lynn has become an active participant in SECOORA and IOOS workshops and committees. Lynn served on the OpenIOOS II demonstration project steering committee, and is a member of the SECOORA Data Analysis and Data Products sub-working group for Business Plan development. Lynn is also one of the founding members of SECOORA’s Ocean Data Partnership (ODP) and recently served as the Search Committee Chair for the ODP information management coordinator.
