New Wave Buoy Near the Florida Keys
A new wave buoy was deployed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on April 1, approximately 30 miles east of Key West, Florida. This buoy will report local wave conditions such as wave height, wave period, wave direction, surface current and temperature every 30 minutes. Buoys off the Carolinas Coast are Receiving Repairs after Hurricane Damage
In February, the SUN2Wave buoy located off the coast of Sunset Beach, NC was redeployed. It was damaged by the active 2017 hurricane season. The buoy provides bottom currents, surface currents, water temperature, and wave measurements. It communicates with a bottom mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and data is transmitted every hour.
ICOOS Act Reauthorization Passes Unanimously in the Senate
Reauthorization of the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System (ICOOS) Act ensures uninterrupted collection and dissemination of ocean data and information. It also continues the innovative partnership between Federal and non-Federal regional partners that make up U.S. IOOS.
