Florida Coastal & Estuarine Nutrient Criteria Workshop

A public workshop has been scheduled to discuss numeric nutrient criteria for estuaries March 3, 2010, 9:00am-4:00pm at the University of North Florida. This meeting is hosted by the Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Assessment and Restoration Support in conjunction with the Taylor Engineering Research Institute.

EPA Region 4 State Beach Program Managers Meeting

SECOORA staff attended this meeting February 25-26 in Jekyll Island, GA. Under the Beach Act of 2000, states are required to monitor their beaches for bacteria and to notify the public when potentially harmful levels of bacteria are found. Stakeholders in this region gathered to learn about state-specific methods of sampling, monitoring, notification, and reporting beach water quality. Regional Water Quality Workshop

On January 25-26, 2010, SECOORA, MACOORA, and NERACOOS hosted a Regional Water Quality Workshop, in concert with the IOOS office, USGS, EPA, and the National Water Quality Network. The purpose of the workshop was to explore integrated science-based solutions to address major water-quality issues and management. Key issues were dissolved oxygen depletion (hypoxia), harmful algal blooms and nutrient enrichment. Presentations can be found at http://acwi.gov/monitoring/network/.
