Claire McGrath Joins SECOORA as Program and Development Manager

SECOORA is pleased to welcome Claire McGrath as Program and Development Manager. In this dual role, Claire will support both the Southeast & Caribbean Coastal Disaster Resilience Partnership (SCDRP) and SECOORA’s broader development and membership efforts, coordinating partnership programs, meetings, and annual event logistics, while also supporting fundraising, grant development, and donor relationship management.

I have been contracting with SECOORA for the last two years, and I’m excited to transition to full-time staff member. The challenges brought about by climate and extreme weather risks in the Southeast and Caribbean cannot be tackled by any one entity alone, and I love that this role gives me the opportunity to foster a sense of community and connectivity between the many people and organizations building resilience across our region.

Claire earned a B.S. in Biology from Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland and brings over a decade of nonprofit experience to her new role. She is motivated by a deep passion for environmental justice and equitable climate resilience, shaped by her experience working with underserved populations. Prior to joining SCDRP, Claire worked with L’Arche, an international nonprofit supporting people with disabilities, and with the Student Conservation Association (SCA), helping high school students in urban areas gain conservation work experience. She has also served as an adaptive kayak guide with Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC), providing people with disabilities and youth from under-resourced backgrounds with environmental education and outdoor experience.

Claire currently leads guided kayak ecotours in the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve in St. Johns County, Florida, in her spare time. She lives in Atlantic Beach, Florida, with her husband and pets, and enjoys surfing, kayaking, hiking, and backpacking.
