SECOORA’s Surface Elevation Table Community of Practice (SET CoP) will host an upcoming webinar on April 10, 2026, from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, focusing on recent coastal wetland change and response in the Apalachicola Bay region. This session is part of the SECOORA SET Webinar Series and will highlight science-based approaches to understanding and tracking environmental change across coastal ecosystems.
The webinar will feature Josh Breithaupt, who will present on regional environmental trends across the southeast U.S. and how wetlands in the Apalachicola Bay region are responding. Using surface elevation table (SET) data, sediment accretion measurements, soil core dating, and vegetation change records, the session will examine patterns of elevation change, environmental variability, and implications for wetland resilience.
Speakers
- Dr. Josh Breithaupt, Assistant Research Faculty, Florida State University Coastal & Marine Laboratory
Topics will include:
- Recent regional environmental trends across the southeast Atlantic and Gulf coasts
- Insights from tide gauge data showing increased rates since 2010
- Monitoring approaches used in the Apalachicola Bay region (SETs, accretion measurements, soil cores)
- Implications for wetland resilience and associated challenges
The session will also include discussion on monitoring challenges and data limitations, followed by an open Q&A.
